Hmmm... Rev. 12:11

"And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives even unto death."(Rev. 12:11)

We are all eternally grateful for the blood Jesus shed for us to be able to experience the new birth, and we all love hearing testimonies (and while we may not all love standing up and telling a crowd, we sure love being the object of a testimony ;) but what about the last part? It doesn't seem to be as popular as the rest of the verse.

What does it mean to "not love our lives, even unto death?"

Well, I guess if it's gonna be, it's up to me; so I'll start.

"...and they did not love their lives, even unto death..."

I don't think we have to dig too far to begin to understand this concept of not loving our lives, even unto death. The clincher is that if we do decide to blow off the proverbial dust we've allowed to settle on these words, we would be required to take a good look at our attitude towards our own life.

Are we really willing to give up that which is 'okay' to do 'once in a while.' Are we willing to trade it for the Glory of God and the discipline required to attain to each new measure of that Glory?

Jesus said it best (go figure) when he said, 'He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.' (John 12:25)

Time to let go of our 'lives' so we can start to live. I don't know about you, but I've about had my fill of emptiness.

'Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.' (Ecclesiastes 4:12)

Overcome by the blood of the lamb AND the word of your testimony AND loving not your life, even unto death.
